In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird Tom Robinson is character that causes a lot of controversy among people in the novel. Many people of Maycomb County are quick to assume that any black man accused of something is guilty. “‘I was glad to do it, Mr. Ewell didn’t seem to help her none, and neither did the chillun, and I knowed she didn’t have no nickels to spare.’” Tom Robinson says this during the trial, and this represented how generous and kind he is. Tom’s kindness is a huge part of his personality, along with his work ethic. Tom didn’t have to stop and help Mayella with what she needed done around the house, but he did stop to help her, and he did her work for her. Everything that he did for Mayella represents his personality, but he had to deal with the consequences.
Tom is a colored male and was accused of raping a white girl, who was Bob Ewell’s daughter. Mr. Ewell apparently saw Tom on Mayella, even though that is not what Tom said happened. He gets put on trial, and much evidence is presented in his favor. The case has no proof, and Mr. Finch proved to the court that the injuries on Mayella were led mostly by a left hand. Tom Robinson, when he was younger, got his left arm caught cotton gin, and obviously could not have raped and hit Mayella. Mayella has the chance to admit what happened, and admit that she attempted to seduce Tom, but she didn’t. By the end of the trial, Tom was found guilty, despite all of the evidence that proved he was not guilty. He was sentenced to life in prison, and Atticus had failed as a lawyer. Tom kept quiet and went to prison like he was supposed to, and it all shows how much of a gentleman his character was.

Atticus Finch is the father of two young children, Jean Louise (Scout) and Jem Finch. Atticus is a lawyer in the county of Maycomb. Scout and Jem see Atticus as a nice, loving, caring, and non-racist person, and a great father. These feelings might differ as the community see’s Atticus as the “deadest shot in Maycomb county”. In the novel on page 130 it states,”Ain’t everybody’s daddy the deadest shot in Maycomb County.” This is how the community viewed Atticus. He was always a nice person in the community, but not everybody liked him as much as his kids did. A major part in the book is when he was given the job to defend Tom Robinson in his court case. It was always a mystery if Atticus was racist or not. It seemed that he gave all he had in him to make sure Tom didn’t go to prison. He wasn’t very mad after the trial, but it showed he was hurt. Atticus was one of the characters that made the novel interesting and a must read.
In the beginning of the book it talks about how Atticus’ wife died when Jem and Scout were very young. They hired Calpurnia and it took a toll on Atticus. He loved her and she pretty much got replaced by Calpurnia, who is an African American women. He showed a lot of love towards Calpurnia, so it made him not racist. This played into his character because when he defended Tom Robinson, there wasn’t a thought in the courthouse that he was racist. If he ended up being racist, nobody would know. He acted nicely to every of race and caused no harm. Atticus is a page-turning character, and had a large influence on his kids.

asked Mr. Radley to take him back after a while. Boo Radley never went to the county jail.” The sheriff didn't have the heart to send Boo to prison with dark skinned. So he went to the basement of the courthouse, due to the mold he couldn’t stay there. So his father agreed to keep Boo Radley in their basement, and treat it like a prison. Since Boo was locked away for many years, he couldn’t go anywhere, technically he is still a child. To the community, Boo was presented as a monster, someone to be scared of because he was different. Jem and Scout had an odd view of Boo, because they didn’t know who he was, only how the town perceived him. When they met him, they realized that he was very different, but not in a bad way. He never had a chance to grow up in a normal setting, and he wishes to attempt to adapt himself back into society.
